Blackjack Rules Explanation for Beginners & Tricks

1.Card Values

• In blackjack, cards are counted based on their face value. Face cards (J, Q, and K) are all counted as 10 points. Aces can be counted as either 1 point or 11 points, depending on the rest of the cards in the player’s hand.

2.Game Procedure

• Once the initial cards are dealt, several actions can be taken. If a player’s hand consists of an Ace and a 10-value card (10, J, Q, or K), it’s called a blackjack. In this case, if the dealer doesn’t have the same hand, the player is paid 1.5 times their original bet. 

Players must make decisions based on their logic and the value of their current hand. The objective is to get as close to 21 points as possible without exceeding it. If the total value of the player’s hand exceeds 21, it’s considered “busted,” and the dealer takes away the bet.

3.Player Actions

One of the reasons why blackjack offers a higher win rate compared to other games is that players can take actions that influence the game’s outcome. Let’s explore the actions players can choose from:

• Hit
  The player can request an additional card from the dealer. The decision to hit or not is based on the points they have accumulated so far. In blackjack, players indicate their desire for another card by tapping the table twice. Conversely, waving their hand above their cards signifies that they don’t want another card.
• Stand
  When a player’s hand has a total value exceeding 12, requesting another face card risks going bust. In such cases, players may decide not to ask for another card. Similarly, if the player’s hand has a value of 17 or more, the dealer also stands, indicating no more cards will be dealt.
• Split
  If a player receives a pair of cards of the same value at the beginning, they have the option to split the pair into two separate hands. However, the player must place the same initial bet on the second hand. Each split hand competes separately against the dealer’s hand. It’s important to note that if a split hand results in a blackjack combination, it is considered a regular 21, and the player is not paid the 1.
• Double
  The double action allows players to double their original bet on a specific hand. This option is available when the player’s starting hand has a value of 8, 9, 10, or 11. 
• Surrender
  Surrendering is a rule in blackjack that allows players to forfeit half of their bet. If a player believes that their two face-up cards are unlikely to win against the dealer’s hand, they can choose to surrender. 
• Insurance
  When the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace, players have the option to purchase insurance. Since there is a high chance that the dealer has a blackjack in such situations, insurance provides some protection.
